Install time
A confident DIYer can fit a full bathroom in panels over a weekend. The same room in tiles typically takes a tradesperson 3–5 days, including grouting and sealing time.
Wet wall panels and ceramic tiles can look similar once installed, but they're very different products to live with. Here's an honest, supplier's-eye comparison of cost, install time, maintenance and finish.

Per square metre, mid-range panels are usually similar in price to mid-range tiles. The big saving is in labour — fewer days on site means hundreds (often thousands) of pounds less in fitting costs.
Tiles have grout lines that absorb moisture, darken over time and grow mould. Panels are completely grout-free — wipe-clean in minutes with no re-sealing required.
Modern panels reproduce marble, stone, tile and concrete finishes convincingly. The lack of grout lines actually makes high-end finishes (like book-matched marble) look more luxurious than tiled equivalents.
Both are long-lasting. Tiles can crack on impact; panels don't. Panels can scratch with abrasive cleaners; tiles handle them. Both will last 20+ years with normal care.
